Alabama expands distance-learning program

Alabama will use $1.8 million in federal and state grant money to add another 20 schools to the 24 already in its distance-learning program. Gov. Bob Riley said the distance-learning push, coupled with other initiatives in place to boost test scores, should propel the state's students from near bottom to the top of the nation's academic list.
