South Texas schools to offer online classes from Mexico - Houston Chronicle (5/29)

Thanks to a partnership between the University of Texas and Mexican education agencies, two South Texas school districts will soon allow immigrant and migrant students, among others, to take online math and science courses in Spanish from Mexican high schools, while they learn English and social science at their American campuses. One district will provide students laptops so they may study while they travel with their families from farm to farm.

A school that only exists in cyberspace will open its doors this fall with more students than many brick-and-mortar ones. The Lawrence Virtual School expects to enroll 750 students for the next school year, a significant jump from the 167 students it had in 2004.
