As nearly 86,000 Jefferson County public school students returned to class yesterday, more than 300 of them attended the district's $3.5 million Virtual School, which opened in Valley and Fairdale high schools. It's "virtual" because it emphasizes computer and online learning, mixed with traditional classroom instruction. But children study the same curriculum as other students.
